OpenAI models are coming to Google Cloud

OpenAI is bringing its frontier models and Codex agentic workflows to Google Cloud's Model Garden, as announced on Wednesday OpenAI blog. Customers will get native access to the models inside the environment where they already work, backed by Google Cloud's data governance and high‑performance infrastructure.

How it works

Purchases will run through the Google Cloud Marketplace, and enterprises with existing Google Cloud spend commitments can draw down those commitments to pay for OpenAI models. This allows organizations to use pre‑allocated cloud budgets for AI workloads without creating separate vendor contracts.

OpenAI models will also soon be available inside Google's own agentic products, Antigravity and the Gemini Agent, giving enterprise customers the flexibility to choose the best model for each task , a phrasing used in the OpenAI announcement.

General availability is planned for the coming weeks, and OpenAI is currently accepting access requests.

For regulated industries, the integration pairs OpenAI's models with Google Cloud's built‑in access controls and centralized data governance, addressing compliance requirements that many teams prioritize.

Context

The announcement also notes that "Microsoft remains OpenAI's primary cloud partner." Including this line highlights OpenAI's continued relationship with Microsoft while expanding options to other cloud providers. The term "primary" reflects the current state of the partnership and may evolve over time.

Multi‑cloud distribution is common for enterprise software, and making models available through cloud marketplaces positions them as purchasable services rather than proprietary platforms. Both OpenAI and Google Cloud benefit: OpenAI reaches customers where cloud spend already exists, and Google Cloud gains advanced AI capabilities for its users.
